CHICAGO (CBS) As Illinois prepares to enter its next reopening phase this weekend, the state’s average infection rate has reached its lowest point in nearly seven weeks, even as daily vaccinations still trail far behind the peak seen in April.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,795 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, as well as 26 more deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, Illinois has reported a total of 1,359,748 cases, including 22,285 deaths.

Chicago, IL-(ENEWSPF)- As Illinois continues to outpace national vaccination rates and COVID-19 trends across the state stabilize following recent upticks, Governor Pritzker announced the entire state will move into the Bridge Phase of the Restore Illinois reopening plan beginning Friday, May 14th. The Bridge Phase will allow for expanded capacity limits for businesses and gatherings before the state moves to a full reopening in Phase 5. Barring any significant reversals in key COVID-19 statewide indicators, Illinois could enter Phase 5 as soon
(The Center Square) – Vaccination teams will soon be dispatched to workplaces across Illinois.
The effort will begin this month with 10 sites in Chicago, Rockford and Schaumburg in the first wave of the program before branching out throughout Illinois.
The state is partnering with the Building Owners and Managers Association and local unions to encourage front desk staff, custodial workers, security personnel and other employees to sign up for an appointment in advance.
“If you haven’t had the chance to get a vaccination yet, or you weren’t sure if it was worth the trek, you can now get one right at your place of work,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said.

COVID-19 vaccine providers throughout Illinois are again averaging more than 80,000 shots a day after spending all of last week below that threshold.
Illinois Department of Public Health figures show providers averaged 81,265 shots a day over the past week. Four days ago, the state was averaging fewer than 66,000 shots a day as part of a two-week decline in shots administered. At its peak just under a month ago, the state was averaging more than 132,000 shots a day.
Declines in average daily new cases and hospitalizations keep Illinois on track to reach the Bridge Phase on Friday, with loosened capacities for businesses and social gatherings, state health officials say.
