Lake Tahoe, Sierra and El Dorado County roadwork January 18-23, 2021

Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/18/2021 - 11:43pm SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The following is a list of the long term and short term projects the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled for the week around Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra and El Dorado County. At this time there is no work scheduled for the South Lake Tahoe area. LONG-TERM PROJECTS U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $55.4 million safety project in the Camino area to replace the existing concrete median barrier and fill in the gaps in the barrier, build an undercrossing, a wildlife crossing, make local road improvements and replace culverts. The project is expected to be completed in 2022. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled on the highway. Westbound Carson Road is closed between Carson Court and Sierra Blanca Road for bridge work. Motorists are being detoured onto westbound Highway 50 and back onto Carson Road.

(Missouri Valley Room Special Collections | Kansas City Public Library) When Sheree R. was 5 years old, her grandpa would take her to Kelly’s Westport Inn for a cold Coca-Cola.  Her grandpa was a regular there.  “Good memories like that probably influenced my career choice of bartender/server/cook through most of my work-life so far,” she said. Sheree, who preferred to remain anonymous, is from Kansas City and worked in Westport throughout the ‘90s. This is why she asked Flatland to find the oldest photo that exists of Kelly’s.

Virginia-DC bridges to close to enhance Biden inauguration security

Four major bridges between Virginia and downtown Washington, DC will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for 48 hours on President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration next week to enhance security measures, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam said on Friday.
