Generation Z War on Older Generations Won t Keep Me From The Things That I Love

Stories By Laura Mullin Apr 28, 2021 My daughter reaches for my hair and maneuvers it around a bit. It’s a flashback to the good old days when she wanted to play hairdresser. But now she’s a teen, and that game is a relic of the past.  Today, she rearranges my tresses with a weirdly calculated look in her eye. “That’s better,” she declares, as she stands back and assesses her work. “You really should wear a middle part. Side parts are dead.” I catch a glimpse of my new coiffure in the mirror. My hair, which hasn’t been cut or professionally coloured in months, thanks to the pandemic, is now divided straight down the centre. My unkempt mop resembles a sad pyramid featuring grey roots up top with “before times” highlights languishing down below.

During This Pandemic, Our Family s Freaky-Friday Side Has Come Out

Freaky Friday a few too many times in a pre-streaming world. I say this because I am starting to think I may have absorbed some of that hocus pocus via osmosis, because I’m now living a role reversal in my household. My partner and I are living more like kids every day. On a recent walk, we were exploring the woods and he fell through the ice of a (thankfully very shallow) pond. It’s the kind of thing my son would have done when he was younger, and certainly something that I worried about and cautioned against. But instead, it’s the eldest member of the household who comes home dripping wet and shivering, but with the grin of a true explorer. I was the only one to see it, because my kids were at home, maintaining their strenuous virtual social obligations and, in my daughter’s instance, refilling the jars in the kitchen pantry, her favourite task to do.

What I d Do Differently if I Were Adopting a Child Right Now

I love my children to the ends of the Earth and back. But 19 years later, after adopting two babies from foster care (one of whom later was diagnosed with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder), and spending years as a volunteer parent resource support person at a local children’s aid agency, I now know that they require more. So, when is love not enough? And what can you do about it? This type of intensive parenting is not simple. It is financially, physically and emotionally draining. You know how people say things like, I wouldn’t change a thing about their experiences? Well, I would actually change a few things.

Telling Me I Don t Look Handicapped is Troubling For Many Reasons

A few weeks ago, I was running errands when I heard it. I had stopped into a local dollar store on the way home to get some things my family needed. I returned to my van with my bag in hand, put it in the back and I was getting into the driver’s seat when I heard a random person yelling at me. First of all, it has been a while since I heard the word handicapped it s 2021 so that might have been the trigger than got my back up. Giving teens with invisible disabilities opportunity is important. Here s one mother on why that is.
