February 26, 2021   ·   0 Comments Judge in OPS trial provides reasons for ruling By Paula Brown, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter The Ontario Court judge who acquitted former Orangeville Police Service (OPS) officer Stephen Fisher, has provided the reasons for her ruling. In the court document released on Feb. 11, Justice Shannon McPherson cited the Crown not being able to prove a recorded conversation in an interview room was a private communication and the lack of credibility from a witness, as the reasons of her ruling. Fisher was charged with disclosure of private communication and breach of trust by a police officer in December of 2018 by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), following an investigation into the release of a video which contained a conversation between two manager officers, allegedly harassing other OPS employees. Fisher was acquitted of both charges by McPherson on January 15.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph (WDG) Public Health in a press release on Monday (Feb. 22) said the public health unit, Dufferin County, and the Town of Orangeville are now working on completing the preparations for the vaccination clinic which will be located at the Alder Recreation Centre. The clinic is expected to open on March 3. “Moving quickly and strategically is essential to getting our region vaccinated against COVID-19. I thank our partners at the County and Town for their commitment to ensuring the people of Dufferin County have local access to the vaccines necessary to ending this pandemic,” said Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health and CEO for WDG Public Health, in the press release.

Ontario government funding $3 4 million for infrastructure in Dufferin-Caledon

February 18, 2021   ·   0 Comments By Paula Brown, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Dufferin-Caledon has received more than $3.4 million in funding from the Ontario government for local infrastructure projects. The $3.4 million funding from the provincial government is through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), and will be spread across 10 municipalities in the community to address local infrastructure needs. The funding is part of the Ontario government’s commitment to provide approximately $200 million to 42 small, rural, and northern communities to help address core infrastructure projects for 2021. Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones in a press release said the funding will help build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure within the Dufferin-Caledon municipalities.
