A new regional option for mental health care in the rural central mountain region was one step closer to reality as ground was broken Thursday for Solvista Healthâs Regional Assessment Center on the Heart of Rockies Regional Medical Center campus.
When completed the facility will provide:Â
⢠24/7 crisis services
â¢Withdrawal management â a safe supervised treatment space to withdraw from alcohol and drugs.
⢠Respite care â a place to comfortably and safely have a break from a difficult situation.
⢠Acute treatment â intensive short-term treatment options for severe mental health or substance use issues.
⢠Individual and group counseling, psychiatry, case management, peer support services and more.

In late August 2019, Shannon Harness awoke to serious pain in the lower right side of his abdomen a telltale sign of appendicitis.
He booked it to the emergency room of the only hospital in the county: Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida, Colorado. After a CT scan, doctors told Harness he had acute appendicitis and required immediate surgery.
A surgeon performed an appendectomy that night and released Harness the next day.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Colorado Joint Vaccine Task Force recently paused the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.Â
The interruption was due to reports of blood clots and low platelets in six Johnson & Johnson vaccine recipients in the United States. The exact cause of the condition and whether it is related to the vaccine is unknown.
Almost 7 million people have received the one-dose vaccine in the United States so far.
Chaffee County Public Health Director Andrea Carlstrom said, âCCPH and all county COVID-19 providers will follow the stateâs requirement that we pause vaccination plans for distributing J&J until further notice.Â
