First COVID-19 vaccines given out to HRRMC employees

Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center began COVID-19 vaccinations for frontline and health care workers Thursday afternoon following receipt of the 345 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The first two recipients of the vaccine in Chaffee County were Dr. Erika Gelgand, HRRMCâs lead physician for COVID-19, and Amanda Reiff, a registered nurse in the Family Birthing Center, who were vaccinated at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday by infection prevention and employee health manager and registered nurse Tracy McConathy. Frontline and health care workers are included in the first phase of vaccinations as vaccines are rolled out from drug companies to medical facilities.

Public health to host virtual town hall

Chaffee County Public Health along with several community stakeholders and subject matter experts will host a virtual town hall to provide updates and address concerns about current trends of COVID-19 at noon Friday, on Facebook Live and Zoom.Â Public health will be joined by representatives from Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, Chaffee County Board of County Commissioners, Chaffee County Emergency Medical Services, Solvista Health and the Buena Vista and Salida school districts. Topics will include the latest with the COVID-19 vaccine and distribution plans, the state and countyâs dashboards, the countyâs overall healthcare system, mental health issues, economic support resources and the Chaffeeâs Got HEART campaign.
