July 25 |   Today in 1965, Bob Dylan made his ‘electric debut,’ at the Newport Folk Festival, playing a Fender Stratocaster instead of an acoustic. A small but vocal minority of folk purists made Dylan cut the set short after three songs.   In 1969, Crosby, Stills and Nash invited Neil Young on stage at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium. July 24 |   On this day in 1967, a Rolling Stones concert in Blackpool, England, turned into a riot. Over 30 people were injured and they were banned from playing the city again, a law that stood until 2008.   In 1971, T.Rex has a #1 single in Britain with “Get It On.” In America, it was called “Bang A Gong” so it wouldn’t be confused with a song on the jazz charts with the same title.   And today in 1969, Paul McCartney played all the instruments on a demo version of his song “Come and Get It.” Badfinger’s note-for-note cover would be a top ten hit.
