(AP) - One of two pilots who were killed when a small plane crashed near Janesville reported engine issues and asked to land before the plane went down, according to a preliminary federal report. The Feb. 16 crash killed Remington Viney, a staff sergeant with the Wisconsin Air National Guard, and Tanner Byholm, the Wisconsin State Journal reported Saturday. The National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report said the Velocity V-twin, which is described as an experimental, amateur-built airplane, departed from Appleton International Airport on the morning of the crash and was bound for Florida. The plane landed at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport to fuel up. February 22, 2021 The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims of a fatal Rock county plane crash. Authorities report the plane crash occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. last Tuesday south of the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport near happy Hallow Park in the Town of Rock. The two occupants found deceased were 26-year-old Remington K. Viney of Kimberly, and 25-year-old Tanner W. Byholm of Glidden. The Rock Co. Sheriff’s Office confirmed the final pieces of the wreckage were removed from Happy Hollow Park on Thursday night. The plane was on its way from Appleton to Florida, stopping at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport to refuel. After departing, the pilot reported engine problems and intended to return to the airport. The NTSB, FAA, Rock County Sheriff’s Office and medical Examiner’s Department is investigating.

Kimberly Woman Killed in Plane Crash Was Air National Guard Staff Sgt

By Rob Sussman SSGT Remington Viney (115th Fighter Wing) JANESVILLE, WI (WLUK) — A Kimberly woman has been identified as one of two people killed in a plane crash this week in southern Wisconsin. The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the woman as 26-year-old Remington Viney. The other victim is identified as Tanner Byholm, 25, of Glidden. Viney was a Staff Sergeant for the 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard. In a post by the 115th Fighter Wing, they say Viney became a member of the Air National Guard in 2013 as a crew chief, then transitioned to a full time position in command and operations in 2018.
