I can’t believe I’m writing this, but it’s 2021 (insert celebratory emoji here)! We only bloody well made it through 2020 – phew! – and the extra good news is, there’s lots of lovely new Scottish music coming your way this month to help get you through what could otherwise be one of the bleakest months in the calendar.
Starting in Glasgow, three-piece act
Bunkhouse, who were brought together in late 2019 by “a desire to push pop into strange places”, are doing exactly that on their self-released, self-titled debut (29 Jan), where fuzzy garage-rock collides with joyful organs, Casio drum beats and droll lyricism. China may have dropped imports of Australian lobsters, but domestic consumers queued up for seafood in huge numbers before Christmas.

The seafood industry s peak body said this support by Australians over the festive period resulted in a significant boost in its Christmas sales.
All throughout 2020 since March, anyway a song rattled around in my head: People Who Died, by the Jim Carroll Band. It was a minor hit in the early 1980s; maybe you know it. Carroll, the punk-poet author of

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) A federal judge has denied
a request from 15 Indianapolis bar owners to stop coronavirus restrictions put in place by Mayor Joe Hogsett and the county’s public health department.
In September, the group of bar, restaurant and nightclub owners asked a judge to rule the local health orders unconstitutional. They said their businesses are dealing with revenue loss and layoffs, and may have to close.
Indianapolis has had coronavirus restrictions of various measure in place since March.
Marion County Public Health Department’s latest order requires bars and nightclubs to have 25% capacity indoors and restaurants to have 50% capacity with social distancing. All of those plus food retailers must be closed from midnight to 5 a.m.
