The astonishing rise of Elon Musk to the rank of the world’s richest person says as much about the United States as it does about the 49-year-old business magnate and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.
Musk’s ascent to the top of the global rich list, with a net worth of around $A260 billion, was the fastest ever recorded. The South African-born Musk only moved to the United States in 1992, founding SpaceX in 2002 and joining Tesla in 2004.
