For Rev. Dannie Bell, serving in the U.S. Army was an honor.
âI was drafted in 1966,â Bell said. âI went in during the height of the Vietnam War.â
He hadnât been away from his family more than two weeks in his life before he went to basic training at the age of 19 in August, 1966.
âI went to Fort Campbell, Kentucky for 10 weeks,â Bell said. âI went to Fort Dix, New Jersey for supply clerk school.â
Bell ended up with a nine-day leave before heading back for duty. The Bulls Gap native didnât have to go into Vietnam, however. He was helping troops who were preparing to go to Vietnam in Germany.

PHIL CAMPBELL, Ala. (WAFF) - 10 years ago the lives of so many people changed. An historic tornado outbreak left its mark on our state - including the town of Phil Campbell in Franklin County. A congregation is giving thanks to God for helping bring them out of the ruins.
This tattered book is one of few treasures pulled from the rubble of Mountain View Baptist Church in Phil Campbell. An EF-5 tornado destroyed the building 10 years ago.
