TWO ADDITIONAL VACCINE CENTERS ADDED THIS WEEK

The vaccine roll-out

The vaccine roll-out Spread the love It was with some amusement that we observed the vaccine roll-out here in Antigua and Barbuda. As with everything here in our fair State under this befuddled administration, it had its fair share of problems. For example, there was a bit of a shouting match at some of the sites, and at one of them, the good Minister of Health had to raise his voice over a few angry persons waiting to be vaccinated, some for as long as five hours. To be fair, we here at NEWSCO believe that the glitches with this vaccination programme are not all the fault of the administration, never mind that we believe that they had more than enough time to adequately prepare and plan. Moreover, we are more than a bit baffled as to why the roll-out was limited only to the polyclinics at Glanvilles and Villa, the Multipurpose Centre at Perry Bay, and the Sir Novelle Richards Academy in Potters. Health authorities rush to increase capacity to meet international pre-testing requirement

Health authorities rush to increase capacity to meet international pre-testing requirement Spread the love Health authorities in Antigua and Barbuda are scrambling to expand the laboratory capacity at the Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) in order to meet new testing requirements issued by the governments of Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Beginning on January 7 for Canada, January 21 for the UK, and January 26 for the US, travellers are mandated to present a negative PCR Covid-19 test, valid up to three days, to be able to enter these countries. However, the MSJMC is the only approved laboratory on the island that conducts PCR tests, creating a challenge for the thousands of international visitors expected to leave the country in the coming weeks.

LIAT cleared to enter Barbados: Receives caution

LIAT cleared to enter Barbados: Receives caution LIAT may be ready to resume flying but the carrier has received a cautionary but polite bit of advice from Gatesworth James, Aviation Consultant. The Antigua News Room online news service reported Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne as saying on Tuesday that that permission has been granted to LIAT to fly to Barbados. This comes after protracted discussion between Antigua and Barbados, and Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, after LIAT had been refused permission to schedule flights into those countries, and five other destinations, beginning November 30.   There has been no indication of a response, one way or the other, from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, up to press time, Wednesday.
