The tragic drowning of Jovonni Moise has rocked the foundations of a close-knit friends circle, whose members made a fateful stop at the Hot Pot near Brighton Beach, St Michael on Sunday, where the young man disappeared.
Even more devastating for Cindy Moise is that every Mother’s Day celebration for the foreseeable future will be a harrowing reminder of the loss of her eldest son in the waters off the southwestern coast.

The man who reportedly went missing while swimming at Brighton, St Michael today has been identified as 21-year-old Javonne Andre Jalani Moise of Dash Valley, St George.
Police said Moise is approximately 5’8″ tall, “his hair is plaited in a corn row style, and he was bareback”.
At the time Moise was wearing a yellow and red beach shorts.
A search which was being conducted by the Police Marine Unit and the Barbados Coast Guard was postponed at 6:40 p.m. due to poor lighting conditions. The search will resume at first light tomorrow.
Police said it was reported that around 4:15 p.m. today a group of five young men went to Brighton Beach, St Michael in the area known as the “Hot Pot”.

The just-concluded court martial of former Barbados Regiment member Shane Coulthrust will now be reviewed by the Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), Colonel Glyne Grannum.
Coulthrust, a former Barbados Coast Guard member, was convicted of two charges late Friday night coming out of his actions while on duty as a coxswain on the
HMBS Endurance on April 19, 2019.
He had originally faced 12 charges, which were eventually reduced to nine.

The body of Javonne Moise was recovered about 8:20 a.m. today. It washed ashore about 50 metres north of the search area where he was last seen.
The 21-year-old of Dash Valley, St George went missing while swimming at Brighton, St Michael on Sunday.
The Police Marine Unit and Barbados Coast Guard started a search for the missing man, but it was postponed around 6:40 p.m. due to poor lighting conditions. The search resumed this morning. (PR/SAT)

Private Shane Coulthrust was found guilty on two of the nine charges for which he was court-martialed but late Friday night his fate remained unknown as the court could not settle on his punishment.
The 33-year-old, at one time a sailor with the Barbados Coast Guard (BCG), but now with the Barbados Regiment, went on trial April 19 on several allegations linked to an April 19, 2019 incident while he was the coxswain aboard the vessel Endurance, patrolling Barbados’ territorial waters.
On Friday after deliberating for more than three hours, at 8:05 p.m. the panel of President Lieutenant Commander Fernella Cordle, Lieutenant Commander Robert Morris and Captain Randolph Clarke convicted Coulthrust for disobeying a standing order by using his personal cellphone on the Endurance and deviating from the patrol area without lawful authority on April 19, 2019.
