No 6 Gymbacks Welcome No 5 LSU Tigers to Barnhill Arena

January 14, 2021 FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas gymnastics team is gearing up for its first home meet of the 2021 season. The No. 6 ranked Gymbacks will welcome the No.5 LSU Tigers to Barnhill Arena on Friday evening (Jan. 15). Friday’s meet is slated to air live on the SEC Network at 7:30 p.m. CT. Last Time Out The Gymbacks posted the highest season-opening score since 2012 at LSU, but fell to the No. 3 Tigers, 196.350-196.550. Amanda Elswick and Sarah Shaffer earned an event title with back-to-back 9.900s on the vault, Maggie O’Hara walked away with the bars title with a 9.900 in the event and Kennedy Hambrick posted a 9.925 on the beam in the final routine of the night for the beam title. Hambrick finished the night with a 39.400 all-around score, claiming the event title for the sixth time in her career.

She joined April Burkholder and Sarah Finnegan as the only gymnasts in school history to earn a 10 on three events. Her 10 marked the first in NCAA Gymnastics in 2021. Gymbacks Prepare for 2021 Season Opener at LSU

January 7, 2021 FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas Gymnastics team is nearly 24 hours away from its 2021 debut in Baton Rouge. The Gymbacks will face the No.5 LSU Tigers on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. CT inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center., Friday’s meet will be aired live on the SEC Network. The season opener kicks off an eight meet SEC schedule. Introductions for the meet will begin at 7:15 p.m. CT with first vault on the SEC Network at 7:35 p.m. John Roethlisberger and Alicia Sacramone Quinn will be calling the meet from home. Returning Razorback Stars Senior Sophia Carter and junior Kennedy Hambrick will be back in the lineup this season, returning to the gym as 2020 Regular Season All-Americans. The duo also earned All-SEC honors, in addition to redshirt-sophomore Bailey Lovett who was named to the 2020 All-SEC Freshman team. Hambrick finished the 2020 regular season ranked 16th in the country in the All-Around with a team-best NQS of 39.38

Excitement is building on campus as our winter and spring sports begin to gear up for what will be a very busy spring semester. Before we dive head long into the new semester a few notes to wrap up from the fall. Texas Bowl Audible As 2020 drew to a close, it offered yet another curve ball related to Razorback Football. Coach Sam Pittman had his team ready to board a plane headed to Houston for the Mercari Texas Bowl when we received word that the game would be canceled due to COVID-19 and other issues within the TCU football program. We were scheduled to play the Horned Frogs on New Year’s Eve in a game televised by ESPN.
