Legislators refile bill that would prohibit it Updated Feb 02, 2021; A trio of Massachusetts lawmakers refiled a bill on Tuesday that would make it illegal for local court and police officials ask about a person’s immigration status, as well as limit cooperation between police and federal immigration agents. “There is no reason that someone who is pulled over by a police officer in a car or interacting in a court has to be asked about their immigration status,” said Sen. Jamie Eldridge, an Acton Democrat, who first filed the bill eight years ago.

Flags honoring first responders on Barnstable overpass vandalized, again

WEST BARNSTABLE  A $2,500 reward is being offered to help find the vandals who destroyed flags commemorating first responders on the First Responders Appreciation Route 149 Overpass. The Barnstable Police Department received a call Friday morning from State Rep. Steven Xiarhos, R-Barnstable, to report that all 14 of the first responder flags that he maintains on the the overpass were destroyed, according to a Friday afternoon statement from the Barnstable Police Department.  Police officers investigated, and determined the flags had been sprayed with an unknown liquid that melted the flag fabric, the statement says. The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations Unit gathered the flags as evidence for further testing, and the police department is investigating.

Elderly Man Found Dead After Search In Eastham

By WXTK News Jan 8, 2021 An elderly man was reported dead after being found unresponsive on the Outer Cape on Wednesday.  The Eastham Police Department says it responded to a missing person report and found the 83-year-old s vehicle in the parking lot of the town library.  The unidentified man was found in nearby Depot Pond. He was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital.  The search effort included the state police and the Barnstable County Sheriff s Office.
