Plans have been lodged for a 190-bed hotel in Liverpool city centre, to occupy a surface car park site between Duke Street and Parr Street.
The scheme has been designed by Tim Groom Architects on behalf of Duke Street Hotel, a vehicle linked to established Liverpool developer Iliad Group through directors David Anastasiou and Tim Molloy.
The hotel would be operated under an emerging brand called Room 2, which has two sites already, in Hammersmith and Southampton.
Taking up space on what is currently a surface car park and a 1950s building previously occupied by Liverpool Media Academy, the proposed scheme would comprise three linked buildings of between five and eight storeys containing 190 hotel rooms.
The Wirral group s tenth studio album,
Coral Island, will feature 85-year-old Ian Murray (also known as The Great Muriarty) on guest vocals. The spiked apple has fallen squarely at the foot of the family tree in this latest chapter of
The Coral s story, with Mr Murray being the granddad of founding band members, James and Ian Skelly. Announcing back in January that they had completed their first ever double-album, to be released on Friday, April 30, the band alluded to a mysterious, unnamed special guest. The vividly themed, double album delves into the familiar neverworld of
Coral Island, soundtracking the spills of summer and the long shadows of tourist-free winters beside the seaside.
NME that the grandad of frontman and drummer James and Ian Skelly has joined the band as guest vocalist on their forthcoming double album ‘Coral Island‘.
Fuelled by their own fairground memories and fantasies, the band’s 10th album sees them soundtracking bustling seaside towns in the summer on the first half of the record before waltzing into the lonely lives of characters who inhabit the island during the cold winter on the second.
Ian Murray, 85, was recruited to perform as ‘The Great Muriarty’ on the record – a tour guide narrating in between songs about the stories behind Coral Island. You can view a clip of him narrating below.

A great addition to the Fabric District. I just hope LCC learned some lessons from the redevelopment of the Baltic Triangle area.

The Ropewalks area is now sufficiently established that the proposed use of the site is acceptable. Moving to the fabric district can hopefully serve to generate a buzz in that part of the city that can serve encourage similar uses. I think an independent clothing market should be encouraged in the fabric district also.

The Fabric District is well connected for transport with Lime Street round the corner. I hope they’re buying a freehold… This area’s gonna get busier. It’s in the edge of the Knowledge Quarter with the School of Tropical Medicine also round the corner. Coldplay recorded a lot at Parr Street too. The piano there is the one you hear on the intro to clocks.
It comes with another one of those off-centre, art pop singles; this one entitled Narrator, featuring guest vocalist Martha Skye Murphy, and inspired by the 2019 film A Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
The inhabitants of Coral Island will be gradually introduced to us during the coming weeks via audio and visual portraits conceived and created by artist Edwin Burdis.
It starts with Faceless Angel, the first single from The Coral’s new double album which was recorded at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool.
At a time when the final lists of showcasing artists would normally be being finalised, South By Southwest has unveiled a line-up for 2021 who’ll be performing remotely for the giant festival this time round.
