Up to 87pc of waste generated in Karachi recyclable, says Murtaza Wahab

Up to 87 per cent of the 15,000 tonnes of municipal waste generated daily in Karachi is recyclable, but instead of doing the recycling this trash is disposed of on the roadsides in Karachi.
The disclosure to this effect was made by Sindh Law and Environment Adviser, Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday as he presided over a conference held at the NED University of Engineering & Technology in collaboration with the UN Habitat to mark the upcoming World Environment Day.
He said still the old system of municipal waste disposal was being practised in two districts, namely Korangi and Central, in Karachi. He said a modern system of municipal waste disposal was being practised in the rest of the five districts of Karachi.

Dr. Ejaz Fatima, the mother of Dr. Asim Hussain and founder of Zia-ud-Din Hospital, passed away at the age of 92.
Dr. Ejaz Fatima has been undergoing treatment at Zia-ud-Din Hospital North Campus for the past several days. She has left behind two sons and two daughters.
In 1952, Dr. Ijaz Fatima founded the first Zia-ud-Din Hospital in Nazimabad.
Dr. Ejaz Fatima’s body was taken from her residence while funeral prayers were offered at Zia Jama Masjid, located at Zia-ud-Din University Link Road Campus.
Chief Minister Sindh, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, and provincial ministers attended the funeral prayers.
On the demise of Dr. Ijaz Fatima, former President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto, along with others, have expressed their heartfelt condolences to Dr. Asim and prayed for the deceased’s forgiveness.

KARACHI: The Sindh Law and Environment Adviser, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has alleged that over a dozen scandals have surfaced during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, despite their claim that Imran Khan’s rule is corruption-free.
