As of now, other March movies slated for wide release include Chaos Walking starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley (March 5), the animated film Raya and the Last Dragon (March 5), The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent starring Pedro Pascal and Nicolas Cage (March 19), along with the highly-anticipated James Bond movie No Time to Die (April 2).

If 2020 unexpectedly called the future of the film industry into question, 2021 is set to be a similarly strange (but hopefully less tumultuous) year for cinema. The FDA issued its first emergency use authorization for a COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020, providing hope that life can proceed more normally in the following year (including moviegoing).
There s hope that we ll be able to crowd into movie theaters again in some capacity in 2021; but even then, the release schedule for upcoming films promises to be packed. Numerous blockbusters like

Round about the time an acquaintance of mine got a Nicolas Cage tattoo – those mournfully stretched features and wide, restless eyes eerily emblazoned on her forearm – I realised that his career, already one of many corners, had turned another. Having moved through the phases of indie oddball, Oscar-winning serious thespian and multiplex marquee name, he seemed at risk of becoming a direct-to-DVD trash king, an ignoble joke.

After highlighting 40 films we can guarantee are worth seeing this year and films we hope will get U.S. distribution, it’s time we venture into the unknown. Due to all the pandemic-related delays, our most-anticipated list this year may ring familiar to those who follow our coverage, but there’s still plenty of currently under-the-radar movies that will hopefully make a mark in 2021.
While the majority might not have a set release–let alone any confirmed festival premiere–most have wrapped production and will likely debut at some point in 2021, so make sure to check back for updates over the next twelve months and beyond.
