The town s Cemetery Commission invited commissioners from other Cape towns including Brewster, Eastham, Falmouth, Orleans, Provincetown and Wellfleet to take part in a Zoom call Feb. 17 to discuss green burials and what it would take to offer them on the Cape.

While traditional burials involve embalming a body with formaldehyde before putting it into a casket and then inside a concrete vault, green burials forgo the embalming and vaults and require that a body be buried in biodegradable shrouds or caskets.

The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners rolled out an updated mission statement at their first meeting of 2021 that states, “Provide quality services at a cost our citizens can afford.” Jevin Jensen, newly installed board chairman, says over the past few weeks, the board – which also includes new for 2021 Robby Staten and returnees Greg Jones and Barry Robbins from last year – agreed on five strategic objectives aimed at making county government more effective and moving our community forward.
These objectives were developed primarily via listening sessions with citizens, department heads and county employees. The Board then collaborated to further refine what they had heard into the following key objectives:

And the fatalities keep piling up. The new sidewalk on Chapel Crossing Road looks nice but serves hardly anyone who calls Glynn County home.
