We knew this before we knew it. As far as I’m aware, none of the major corporations squawking about Georgia’s law lately undertook a serious lobbying effort to oppose it before it passed. Delta actually praised the law in its first statement after Brian Kemp signed it, noting that it “improved considerably during the legislative process, and expands weekend voting, codifies Sunday voting and protects a voter’s ability to cast an absentee ballot without providing a reason. For the first time, drop boxes have also been authorized for all counties statewide and poll workers will be allowed to work across county lines.” Shortly thereafter lefty activists grabbed the company by the lapels and urged it to reconsider its assessment, which Delta duly did.

ATLANTA – Speaker of the House David Ralston (R – 7) commented on the General Assembly’s accomplishments for the 2021 session.
Starting off with the hottest issue of 2021, Ralston stated that he was “very pleased” with the Election Integrity Committee’s work. Chaired by Barry Fleming, they reviewed numerous bills submitted by Republicans and Democrats until the final version of SB 202 was passed. It added two optional Sunday voting days into Georgia law and added another mandatory Saturday.
“I expect many rural Georgia counties won’t vote on Sundays,” Ralston commented, adding that rural Georgians go to church and eat with families on the Sabbath. Also, some smaller counties might have issues staffing polling places on Sunday.

Attorney Poy Winichakul was about 12 minutes into her testimony before the Georgia legislature’s Special Committee on Election Integrity. She was summing up how 47 states using absentee ballots had never discovered “widespread fraud,” and how the same could be said of Georgia in the 2020 elections. “Voting fraud” using absentee ballots, the voting rights attorney with the Southern Poverty Law Center concluded, “is even less of a problem than being struck by lightning.”
