Someone hasn t bothered reading the link. Macro 2 More ironic humour from Andy Borowitz (and very close to the truth!) WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) A furious Donald J. Trump attempted to fire the Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, sources report. According to the sources, Trump was so irate about the Supreme Court’s dismissal of his election challenge on Tuesday that he phoned Barrett directly to inform her that she was “history.” “I hired you to get a job done, and you didn’t get it done,” Trump angrily informed Barrett. “You’re out of here.” Sources say that Barrett had the unenviable task of informing Trump that Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life and therefore cannot be fired, a revelation that left Trump “flabbergasted.”

He needs to go - Judith Collins on under-fire Trevor Mallard

He needs to go. That s the message from Judith Collins as she savages Parliament s Speaker Trevor Mallard - saying her party s lost confidence in him. Mallard s in the firing line amid revelations taxpayers footed a $330,000 bill for his settlement and legal costs of a defamation action - after he wrongly called a staff member a rapist. National leader Collins told Simon Barnett and Phil Gifford Jacinda Ardern needs to front up and act.  She says the Prime Minister has 65 votes in the House and could easily sort him out. Collins says the sheer size of the pay-out shows how serious the matter is.

Trevor Mallard s legal dispute cost more than $330,000, National reveals

Trevor Mallard s legal dispute cost more than $330,000, National reveals Craig Mcculloch © RNZ / Dom Thomas Taxpayers have had stump up more than $330,000 on a legal dispute sparked by Parliament s Speaker Trevor Mallard falsely accusing a staffer of rape. The bill has prompted the National Party to withdraw its support for the Speaker, saying Mallard is no longer fit for the job. Mallard made a public apology this week for comments he made last year falsely claiming a rapist was working on Parliament s premises. The apology put an end to defamation proceedings lodged by a former staffer. National has now revealed the total cost to the taxpayer, including a $158,000 ex-gratia payment to the worker.

But other options include: Mallard thinking a hug was akin to rape; a complainant who didn t want to be targeted by Soper and tories so did not want to take their complaint further, and Mallard is taking a hit for summarising the complaint accurately but prematurely in public; the initial confidential findings getting a massive backtrack when employment and more serious options started being pursued Mallard completely misread and conflated the allegations into something that nobody had described; maybe some other possibility that hasn t occurred to me If I were offered a million dollars if I could pick the correct scenario, I wouldn t be picking that Mallard thought an innocent but unwelcome hug was a serious sexual assault akin to rape.
