Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig is encouraging eligible farm owners to apply for the 2021 Century and Heritage Farm Program. The program is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and recognizes families that have owned their farm for 100 years in the case of Century Farms and 150 years for Heritage Farms.
It has been more than 185 years since land that is now the state of Iowa was opened for settlers. The America of the 21st century is far different from the nation presided over by President Andrew Jackson in 1833. There is, however, one constant feature for Iowans agriculture is at the very heart of economic life in the Hawkeye State.

The 2021 season brings Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares on sale.
For 20 weeks of pre-paid shares, farm patrons will receive a supply of what’s growing in the fields over the spring, summer and fall herbs, tomatoes, kale, lettuces and more. The first pick up at the gazebo is planned for June 3 and the program runs through Oct. 14. For the seasons, pricing for a Standard Share is $550. The CSA “Champion” costs $775 and covers an additional half share for a community member in need. The CSA “Community Advocate” plan is $1,100 and includes a Standard share plus a full share for a fellow Staten Islander.
