IFFCO Paradeep prepares to beat Cyclone Yass
IFFCO ‘s, one of the production units in Paradeep, Odisha gears up to face yet another cyclone ‘Yass’. The plant is shut and operating on partial load with staff on high alert.
Sharing the preparedness through social media, the IFFCO MD tweeted, “We at #IFFCO always take safety & security on priority.IFFCO #Paradeep unit @kjpatelparadeep & team in #Odisha is geared up to face the challenge of #CycloneYaas along with all safety precautions of #COVID19. The plant is shut & operating on partial load with staff on high alert”.
The cyclonic storm is very likely to make landfall near Balasore in north Odisha with a speed of 155 kmph to 165 kmph, gusting to 185 kmph, around noon on May 26, the Met department said.

Jagatsinghpur (Odisha) [India], May 25 (ANI): With impending very severe cyclonic storm Yaas predicted to make landfall on the Odisha-West Bengal border on the eastern coast of the country, the district administration evacuated locals from their homes to shelter homes in Jagatsinghpur district.
Speaking to ANI Lakshmi from Sandhakud in Paradeep said, During the last cyclone, my family lost everything. We luckily survived. I have come here with my husband, daughter, and her children.
According to the India Metrological Department (IMD), Cyclone Yaas is likely to cross between Paradeep and Sagar Island near Balasore at noon on May 26.

NEW DELHI, May 25 (Xinhua) Authorities in India s eastern states of West Bengal and Odisha have begun to evacuate people from highly prone areas ahead of Cyclone Yaas, officials said on Tuesday.
The evacuations are likely to be completed before the arrival of Yaas, which is predicted to hit the West Bengal-Odisha coast on Wednesday noon.
According to officials, people were evacuated in the Chandipur area of Odisha s Balasore district by the local administration and marine police force. The government officials were seen making announcements on loudspeakers, urging people to move to safer locations ahead of the cyclone.

In addition to those from the battalions deployed in these districts, teams from NDRF battalions in Assam and Bihar are airlifted to Odisha and West Bengal, respectively.

In anticipation of Cyclonic Storm Yaas in the Bay of Bengal, eight teams of the 01 BN National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Guwahati were airlifted to Odisha for search and rescue operations.
Following the Indian Meteorological Department s advisory, state governments in Odisha and West Bengal requisitioned more than 50 NDRF teams in Odisha and 35 teams in West Bengal, according to Sh. H P S Kandar.
