He appealed to the farmers to remain peaceful and to commuters to take time to listen to the farmers’ demands. “A successful rail roko will force the government to break the deadlock,” said Kul Hind Kisan Sabha leader Baldev Singh Nihalgarh. A three-hour chakka jam or road blockade on February 6 saw the most extensive response in Punjab and Haryana, where the agitation has been most widespread and long-lasting. A number of other States saw some large gatherings in scattered locations but failed to have mass impact.

andolanjivi” and “ parjivi – parasites”, the Bharatiya Kisan Union Tikait leader Rakesh Tikait on Tuesday asked the government whether Bhagat Singh was also a “ parjivi?” Rakesh Tikait addressed a mahapanchayat organized by Haryana farmers at the grain market of Gumthala Garhu village in Pehowa area of Kurukshetra, which was attended by thousands of the farmers from the district as well as the neighbouring districts. The rally was organized by Jastej Sandhu son of former Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Jaswinder Singh Sandhu from Pehowa, with support of several Haryana khap panchayats. Tikait was honoured by the organizers. Tikait ran about two hours behind schedule and he reached the event venue sitting on the roof of an SUV, along with a cavalcade of hundreds of cars and his followers. Thousands of farmers waited eagerly to listen to Tikait for long and he summed up his address in about 20 minutes before leaving the place.

The farmers said they were taking drinking water to the dharna site on the Uttar Pradesh-Delhi border because the Yogi Adityanath government had suspended water supply to the area to pressure the protesters into leaving.
