This week concludes our Maryland Fishing Report for 2020 look for our winter update in early February, and for our weekly reports to resume in March 2021.
Despite colder temperatures there is still plenty of good fishing ahead in the winter months. Many will now shift their focus to freshwater and ocean fishing with freshwater providing the easiest opportunities and definitely the more comfortable.
What Five Years of the Berlin Program for Artists Taught Us
The co-founders Simon Denny, Willem de Rooij and programme alumni explain why artists are essential to the fabric of Berlin
Carina Bukuts: What was your main aim in founding the Berlin Program for Artists (BPA) in 2016?
Willem de Rooij: Simon [Denny], Angela [Bulloch] and I all teach at art schools in Germany, where we work closely with our students and often remain in touch with them long after they’ve graduated. Unlike law or medicine, where you learn essential skills on your first job, artists often find themselves working alone in their studio after finishing their studies. While there are successful programmes for postgraduates abroad, such as the Independent Study Program at the Whitney Museum, we couldn’t identify an institution in Berlin dedicated to supporting emerging artists at the moment in their careers when they need that extra level of connectivity.
As kids, growing up, we were spared from the mundane.
I ve heard it said that people express grief in different ways. I submit that some people express grief in
My brother, the one who teaches English Lit. in High School, spoke the words quoted above as part of his eulogy at our mother s memorial service. The service itself underscored the truth of it. No longer kids, growing up , we still mostly sidestepped the mundane.
The memorial gathering was to be at a spot that had been a favorite of Val s (our mom s given name). The way there was a winding, narrow, logging road climbing through the Cascade Mountains near Granite Falls in Western Washington State. A vista, probably intended as a turnout for logging trucks to pull off of the steep, narrow road to allow other vehicles to get by, was the chosen spot. The view was breathtaking.
