OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. The busy fire season over the summer stirred up havoc throughout Washington state.
Hundreds of thousands of acres were burning for days and many homes standing in the way of flames were destroyed.
Daniel Pratt is the founder of Okanogan Highlands Fire Watch and knows all too well about the damage left behind.
“Just us showing up there makes a world of difference,” he said.
Pratt started the Facebook page in 2015, using social media to update people in the path of dangerous conditions. More than 17,000 members use the page.
SPOKANE- Many people are working to help each other this season, including Daniel Pratt who has been helping folks impacted by the Palmer Fire.
Pratt says their goals are to create a fire-friendly environment by helping those impacted by the fire build shelters.
âWe are set up in our first phase now, weâve had lots of volunteers weâve had in fact we have 20 up there today and our goal is to get the units dried in before we get to the cold- January, February, March of course, and then come spring weâll have a second phase where we will be focused on a firewise system,â Pratt said.
