Developer Palmer Renewable Energy said Wednesday it has already begun work at the site, 1000 Page Blvd. in East Springfield.

The writer said, “You can’t have a polluting industry without a sacrifice zone.” Words to remember, that immediately flashed through my mind when listening to an explanation of the Baker Administration’s new rules classifying “clean” energy sources under the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard program (RPS). Technologies that  qualify get lucrative renewable energy subsidies from ratepayers.

Springfield City Council chooses new president at final meeting of 2020 Updated Dec 22, 2020; Facebook Share Ward 5 Councilor Marcus Williams was voted in unanimously, but only after an hour-long discussion over procedure. “I really want to recognize the time we are in,” Williams said. “As this pandemic has ripped through the country, we are seeing the best of the people we serve.” He said he wants to lead the council as the city heals from COVID-19 Sitting president Justin Hurst, Melvin Edwards of Ward 3 and Williams of Ward 5 all had votes for president going into the meeting. There was some discussion as to the procedure for electing a president. Current Council President Justin Hurst said that by his interpretation each name would be placed before the council one at a time with the first one getting seven votes winning.
