PITTSTON A new practice by Dr. Rhyan Mercado opened at the Pittston Chiropractic Clinic on May 1.
Dr. Mercado attended Bucknell University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in art. He went on to graduate from Palmer College of Chiropractic and was awarded an Doctor of Chiropractic degree.
He has practiced in Pennsylvania for 14 years and is trained in several adjusting techniques, including Gonstead, Diversified and Palmer Package.
Dr. Mercado was born in the Philippines and grew up in Carlisle. During his tenure as a chiropractic student he participated in outreach programs in the Dominican Republic and Bolivia.

Education Briefs: Hope Summer Repertory Theatre gets new education director

HOLLAND Hope Summer Repertory Theatre is welcoming a new member to its leadership team this summer. Laura Matthews will join as director of education.
Matthews has been a teaching artist, actor and director in Chicago since 2012, working with theaters and schools such as Porchlight Music Theatre, Emerald City Theatre, Elmhurst College, Roosevelt University and American Theatre Company.
During the academic year, Laura is the visiting professor of theatre at Blackburn College. She holds an MFA in pedagogy and performance from Virginia Commonwealth University and bachelor’s degree in musical theatre and interdisciplinary communication studies from Elmhurst college. She is currently training and studying to be an intimacy choreographer.
WoodmenLife awards Pink Hill Elementary in patriotic contest
WoodmenLife recently named Pink Hill Elementary the third place winner of $1,000 of it America Is… video contest. The contest is geared toward elementary students to get them interested in history, their community, and patriotism. Students across the country created original 60-second videos showing why they think America Is Beautiful. The winners were decided by voting on the WoodmenLife Facebook page, and more than 2,500 votes were cast.

University of North Carolina at Charlotte: Madison Snyde
