Arkansas this week hit a new record for the active number of coronavirus cases in the state, according to official estimates.
The state on Thursday reported some 25,984 active cases of COVID-19, an increase of 892 from the day prior.
Overall, Arkansas on Thursday has seen an estimated 245,916 cases of the novel virus, an increase of 3,323 from the day before.
Additionally, the virus has claimed some 3,926 lives in the state, per official estimates. It is critical that we all work together to protect ourselves and our neighbors as this virus steadily spreads across Arkansas, said Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, in a statement.

Over 50 cases of the more contagious, mutated coronavirus strain first detected in the U.K. have been identified across the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In an update Wednesday, the CDC listed 26 cases in California, two in Colorado, 22 in Florida, one in Georgia and an additional case in New York, for a total of 52 cases. On Thursday, Pennsylvania s Department of Health said that it had a confirmed case of the variant as well.

RICHMOND, Va. Tuesday marked three weeks since Virginia began administering doses of COVID-19 vaccine, and some Virginians who have received the Pfizer vaccine and have now gotten their second of two doses are fully vaccinated against the virus.
âIt was really exciting, yet again, to finally get to that point,â said Cassie Lewis, who works as a Nurse Practitioner and Chief Quality Officer with the Bon Secours and received her second dose. Not only does she work directly with COVID-19 patients, but she also planned the health systemâs vaccination program and was the first to receive both the first and second doses of the vaccine.

A 19-year-old Chicago man who reportedly had no underlying conditions died a week after he was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, his family said.
Arnold Herrera was diagnosed with COVID-19 last week. He was recovering at home but his condition reportedly worsened on New Year’s Eve. He was taken to a local hospital the following day.
But Herrera’s condition failed to improve, and he died on Sunday, his older brother, Pablo Portilla, told local news station WLS-TV.

WASHINGTON Health officials in DC, Maryland, and Virginia are reworking their vaccine plans after learning unexpectedly Thursday that they could be receiving fewer doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
The states were informed by Operation Warp Speed – which for the moment is coordinating all vaccine shipments between manufacturers and states – that the next round of vaccine shipments will likely be smaller than expected. In Virginia, health officials say they’re now planning to receive only 370,650 of the 480,000 doses they were expecting by the end of the year.
