Health Board approves $308,000 settlement with former employee

Kyle Unland was the Spokane Regional Health District’s director of health promotion, until his job was eliminated by the district last February.

Foley event discusses COVID-19 vaccine issues

WSU’s Foley Institute hosted a virtual meeting Tuesday to discuss the technology and misinformation surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine.  There are three major types of vaccines, said Dr. Bob Lutz, member of the Washington State Department of Health. There is a protein-based vaccine, an mRNA vaccine and a viral vector. The mRNA vaccine technology has been around for a very long time, but this is the first vaccine of its kind to be produced, he said. It is also the main COVID-19 vaccine, which is produced by Moderna and Pfizer.  Lutz said this type of vaccine allows the body’s own mRNA in the cell to create proteins against the virus.

Clarkston schools likely to remain in hybrid model, official says

February 9, 2021 Students in Clarkston will likely continue in a hybrid learning model through the end of the school year because of a social distancing requirement within school buildings in Washington. During Monday night’s school board meeting, Brady Woodbury, the administrator of the Asotin County Health Department, said the district’s buildings are not large enough to house students 6 feet apart, something that’s needed to return to a full-time in-person learning experience. Woodbury was joined by Dr. Bob Lutz, the health officer for Asotin County, as the duo fielded questions from patrons of the school district about vaccines, the current hybrid model of education and what is expected when the 2021-22 school year begins. When the Clarkston School District is able to offer more face-to-face learning to its students, Woodbury said students in kindergarten through sixth grades will likely be first in line.
