“Communities of color have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19,” said Ajay Sethi, a UW-Madison associate professor of population health sciences.
As of Tuesday, about 24% of white Dane County residents had gotten at least one dose compared to 10% of Black people, 12% of Asian people and 23% of American Indian people in the county. The numbers across the state show similar disparities.
“There’s a history of that, but we don’t want to fall into complacency,” Sethi said.
DHS said in a statement that there’s not one factor that drives the disparities, listing systemic barriers such as a lack of access to quality healthcare, housing, transportation and job opportunities.

BARABOO, Wis. Sauk County investigators have identified two of the three people they were hoping to talk to in connection to a homicide that occurred last fall at Devil’s Lake State Park.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office posted an image showing three people online Tuesday asking for the public’s help in identifying them. In an update on social media, officials said the man in the middle and woman have been identified. Detectives are still looking to learn the identify of the man on the left.
The sheriff’s office stressed the people shown in the photo are potential witnesses and should not be considered suspects in the homicide.

MIDDLETON, Wis. Police arrested a man Tuesday night on a tentative felony OWI charge after he ran from officers during a traffic stop on Century Avenue at Middleton Springs Drive.
A Middleton police officer initially conducted the traffic stop because of a defective headlamp and brake lamp on the vehicle in question. During the stop, the driver, 40-year-old Bernardo Vasquez, ran from the vehicle.
Officers with the Middleton Police Department and deputies with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter in the area as a Middleton K-9 unit conducted a track. Police said they found Vasquez in an area nearby.
