The latest initiative from the Jamaica Tourist Board, Discover Jamaica by Bike, has officially kicked off with great enthusiasm.
The ride, which started at Kingston’s Spanish Court Hotel, took participants through the destination’s capital and was the first leg of the consumer cycling experience rooted in active travel and the development of outdoor programs.
“We are excited that Discover Jamaica by Bike is off to a roaring start,” said Donovan White, Jamaica director of tourism.
“This new cycling program will undoubtedly become one of our most sought-after experiences as travellers continue to seek out socially distant activities.
Minnis’ medicinal marijuana announcement came one day before Bob Marley’s birthday
Dear Editor,
Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis’ announcement on February 5 that his Free National Movement (FNM) administration will be moving forward legislatively to legalize medicinal marijuana comes before the Bahamas National Commission on Marijuana has handed in its final report on marijuana to the Minnis administration which is tentatively scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.
The medicinal marijuana news dominated the headlines and Facebook throughout the weekend, overshadowing the news of Restaurants Bahamas Limited announcing that it will lay off 35 employees from its KFC branches and the news of House Speaker Halson Moultrie formally severing ties with the FNM.

The Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston was abuzz last Saturday as the first leg of Discover Jamaica by Bike headed off to Holywell Park in the hills of Blue Mountains.
Members of the Jamaica Cycling Association, led by Dennis Chung, participated in the ride, which took them along: Trafalgar Road, pass Devon House, Bob Marley Museum, Hope Gardens, then to Papine, Strawberry Hill Gordon Town Road, Craighton Estate, Irish Town and up the trail to Holywell Park.
The foundation for this consumer cycling experience was set in 2020 when Director of Tourism, Donovan White and members of the Association participated in the pilot phase of the event. The experience is a new tourism initiative rooted in active travel and the development of outdoor programmes and is expected to be a staple on the menu of things to do across the island.
