A little-seen social media post with a Labor MP and the phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” shows the depths of division in the party over Israel.

Out of border

Out of border SORRY STATE OF AFFAIRS © Provided by Crikey border airport Health authorities have identified more than two dozen exposure sites in New South Wales and Queensland after a woman left Melbourne during lockdown on Tuesday, June 1 before testing positive for COVID-19 on the Sunshine Coast yesterday. The woman, who Guardian Australia explains could be a recovered case, apparently travelled through Gillenbah, Forbes, Dubbo, Moree, Goondiwindi, Toowoomba, Kings Beach, Moffat Beach, Caloundra, and Buddina before arriving in Baringa on Tuesday, June 9. Coincidentally,  Jacinda Ardern has also had to warn of “consequences” for people found to break New Zealand’s border controls after three other Melburnians were caught last week trying to enter the country via Sydney.

Australia: Hundreds protest Sydney bus route cuts

Australia: Hundreds protest Sydney bus route cuts Around 400 residents of Sydney’s eastern suburbs gathered in Randwick on May 30 to protest looming cuts to bus services in the area. The proposed changes, which include cutting 25 routes and modifying another 23, are part of the state Liberal-National government’s preparations for the privatisation of Region 9, one of the few remaining parts of Sydney with state-operated buses. Bids for the eight-year contract to operate bus services in Region 9 have now closed, and the tender will be awarded in November. The successful bidder is meant to commence operations in April 2022, completing the shift of all Sydney bus routes to private operation.

'Uyghur Tribunal': Much ado about nothing

OPINION / VIEWPOINT By Xin Ping Published: Jun 03, 2021 10:13 PM People dancing in front of Id Kah Mosque in Kashgar to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. Photo: XinhuaThe United Kingdom is a magical place. Sometimes in the UK, it s just so strange that things might go one way, but their names might indicate otherwise. For instance, the British Broadcasting Corporation could be broadcasting fake news; Arsenal might fail to find a gunner to shoot and score; Coldplay s concerts are often as popular as fire. And the calls for independence never cease in a United Kingdom. Let s face it, this is a weird place.  This is the same case for the so-called Uyghur Tribunal, to be held on June 4, in London, where the audiences, long drenched in a kind of Shakespearean cultural richness, have become picky-eaters when it comes to dramas. In a place labeled as a tribunal, however, what s going on in the theatrical tribunal is not Portia preserving justice with her sophisticated wisdom.
