Free agency is starting to hit its lull prior to the NFL Draft. Free agents are less likely to be signed as frequently with most teams starting to get more focused on the draft that is less than a month away. This makes it a great time to catch up on what has transpired so far for the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency. Here is a brief look at each move they have made so far this offseason.
Bengals’ traditional draft strategy suggests they’ll take Penei Sewell
It would be a surprise for Cincinnati to draft the top wideout, Ja’Marr Chase, considering their usual approach to filling big needs early.

One thing is clear about the Cincinnati Bengals, they are a conservative franchise. They don’t have a traditional general manager, they offer little guaranteed money to free agents, and until just last year they relied exclusively on the NFL Draft for their top-end talent.
One such conservative tendency has been to attack an area of need very early in the draft. Last year, that worked out quite well, as Joe Burrow is an absolute star and charismatic figure who attracts free agents like new tackle Riley Reiff by way of his personality.

Duane in North Carolina: There has been a lot of talk about some big trades that could be made before and during the draft: do you think the Giants will be involved in trading their first round pick?
John Schmeelk: At this point, it would surprising. We know Dave Gettleman s history of not trading down in the draft, but that s not the primary factor. It looks like the top five quarterbacks in this year s draft (Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, Lance, Jones) will be gone by the time the Giants select at 11th overall. Teams are more often than not motivated by quarterbacks to come up and make a trade. If they are off the board then there probably won t be many teams looking to move up and willing to pay a premium price to do so.
