May 13, 2021 LANSING Dorothy T. Carlton (Dot) was a caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She went to her heavenly home on May 11, 2021, at the age of 88, in Lansing. Dorothy was born to John and Katherine Toth in Calumet on July 31, 1932. She graduated from Calumet High School and Suomi College (now Finlandia University) in Hancock and also attended Marquette University and Wayne State University. Dorothy was married to the love her life, Frederick “Fritz” Carlton, who preceded her in death in 1997. After his passing, she remained fiercely independent, putting finishing touches on their “camp” retirement home in Agate Harbor. She was passionate about a sense of community and life in the Copper Country. She found time to participate in community activities hosted by the Keweenaw Historical Society and the American Cancer Society while caring for aging relatives. ‘Parking Lot Picasso’ to turn asphalt into art April 30 event will take place at Sterling Heights Senior Center Shutterstock image Advertisement STERLING HEIGHTS Creatively inclined residents are invited to leave their mark on the city or rather, its pavement at an upcoming event involving chalk art. The program, titled “Parking Lot Picasso,” is run by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and will use the south-end lot of the Sterling Heights Senior Center as its canvas. Forty parking spaces are being reserved for this year’s event, which will take place 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, with a rain date set for Saturday, May 1 at the same time.
