VFW Post 4174: School days!
By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Aug 4, 2021
On the radio back in 1948, a program called Our Miss Brooks was on the air, regaling listeners with the trials and tribulations of an imaginary high school. The show was popular and a regular feature until 1956 when it went to television, with Eve Arden in the lead role as Miss Brooks. It showed many antics which would never be accepted behavior in this day and age.
In 1957, an entertainer named Chuck Berry sang about getting “Up in the morning and off to school” while Bobby Rydell entered the vaults of treasured music with the hit Swingin’ School in 1960 and in 1963, The Beach Boys, with the help of cheerleaders, sang “Be True to Your School.” Over the years, there have been many, many hits referring to the good old days when we went to school, and even some movies took place in the hallowed halls of education. School Days were a very important part of our younger years.
