Safety Bobby McCain was released Thursday by the Miami Dolphins, who agreed to terms with veteran cornerback Jason McCourty.

McCain, who has spent his entire six-year NFL career with the Dolphins, became expendable when they took safety Jevon Holland of Oregon in the second round of the draft.

One of the longest tenured Dolphins will not be returning next season. The team is planning to release Bobby McCain, one of the teams veteran players and a team captain. McCain has been with the Dolphins since 2015, when the the team drafted him in the fifth round out of Memphis. Since then, McCain has been nothing but dependable for the Dolphins secondary. The Dolphins figure they can save some cap space with McCain’s release and could potentially be looking at a free agent (Malik Hooker) to add to the roster.

Will Geron Christian and Troy Apke be packing their bags soon?
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports It was reported today that two veteran free agents recently cut by their respective teams, Charles Leno of the Bears and Bobby McCain of the Dolphins, will visit the Washington Football Team facility next week as Ron Rivera continues to strengthen and deepen the Football Team roster in an effort to repeat as NFC East champions. This could end the Washington careers of two 2020 Week 1 starters, LT Geron Christian and FS Troy Apke, both of whom were benched midseason by head coach Ron Rivera.
The Cowboys should be interested in this recently released safety
The Cowboys need depth at safety and should be looking to get some with teams now cutting more experienced players.

The Dallas Cowboys once again failed to address their glaring issue at the safety position, instead they opted to draft cornerbacks in the later rounds in an effort to see if they can play the position. That my seem like a good idea inside the organization, but from the outside looking in, the Cowboys still need to find experienced depth at safety. With the draft over and teams re-evaluating their rosters there are bound to be players that end up being cut because of salary cap issues or the team just wanted to get younger at the position.
