The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is likely on Thursday to pick a different company to manage health care at the county jail, more than a year after the death of John Neville brought medical treatment at the jail into sharp focus here.
And commissioners are also likely to spend extra money providing expanded mental health services at the jail, in response to concerns expressed by many, including Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough, that mental health treatment is something many people need who end up in jail.
Wellpath, the current provider, was among six companies that submitted proposals to the county for the new contract, which will take effect on Sept. 1.

GREENSBORO, N.C. Leaders in the Triad with the North Carolina Association of Educators, NC A&T State University and more addressed the guilty verdict of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin Tuesday.
Chauvin was found guilty in the murder and manslaughter in the May 25, 2020 death of George Floyd.
Video seen around the world, and multiple police body cameras, showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd for nine minutes and 29 seconds outside of a grocery store.
Eric Ellison, a Winston-Salem criminal defense attorney, said Tuesdayâs guilty verdicts against the former Minneapolis police officer in the death of George Floyd will lead to local communities holding law enforcement officers accountable when they unjustly harm and kill Black and brown people.
âDerek Chauvin committed a murder, and the jury held him accountable,â said Ellison, whose brother, Keith Ellison, oversaw Chauvinâs prosecution as the Minnesota attorney general. âI, along with the rest of the nation, am relieved, that justice has finally been served.â
Jurors deliberated for about 10 hours over two days before finding Chauvin, 45, guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floydâs death. Chauvin could be sentenced to prison for decades.
