The Bauchi State Government on Monday gave the assurance of its commitment to facilitating the actualization of the creation of Katagum State out of the state.
The state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the Movement for Creation of Katagum State at the Government House, Bauchi.
According to the governor, the creation of the proposed Katagum State was long over due and informed that the request had been endorsed by the state government.
Governor Mohammed, who was represented by his deputy, Senator Baba Tela, informed the delegation that he had already ordered the inclusion of the agitation in the memoranda to be presented at a public hearing on constitutional amendment to be conducted in the state on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

The committee was facilitated by a non-governmental organisation, Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative, and it was inaugurated by the state deputy governor, Senator Baba Tela, in Bauchi.
Danjuma said, “What we used to have is, the police would remand you for more than 24 hours. But under this law, magistrates are allowed to visit police stations from time to time to look at police cells, and those that are there. By going there, they will look at what is abnormal and rectify it. If somebody is detained for more than 24 hours, they will ask that he is arraigned.”
Danjuma also decried that the criminal justice system in Nigeria has flaws in many ways, starting from police investigation, the prosecution and arraignment of accused persons.
