RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Wednesday said some previous court decisions hindered the technological progress in the country which was unfortunate. Technological progress received a big blow in our country due to some previous court decisions, he said while addressing at the two-day international media conference titled Digital Media Ecologies in the New Normal Challenges and Opportunities at the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi. The minister said Pakistan s relations with digital companies had been deteriorated due to some court decisions in the year 2014. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority s decision to ban TikTok earlier last year also caused damage to these relations, he said and lamented, Ban culture in the country has affected every sector. I plead judges not to hear cases relating to digital media, he said.

RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhary on Wednesday said previous court decisions and state polices led to sour relations with information technology companies in the country.
Addressing a two-day International Media Conference at the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), the minister said the courts, particularly those in 2014, had dealt a blow to the country’s relations with digital and technology companies and hindered the progress of the industry in Pakistan.
“I personally requested the judges in meetings with them not to hear cases related to digital media,” he said.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) decision to ban TikTok earlier last year also caused further damage to these relations, he said, adding that the “ban culture” had affected every sector in the country.
Rawalpindi: International Media Conference 2021 kick started at Fatima Jinnah Women University. International Media Conference 2021 titled ‘Digital Media Ecologies in the New Normal: Challenges and Opportunities’ commenced here on Wednesday at the Fatima Jinnah Women University premises. The conference will continue on February 18th, 2021.

This conference is being held at the time when there is a dire need to discuss the role of the media in our contemporary societies. Media and Communication Departments are mushrooming fast in the country and it is highly imperative for them to focus on the quality of research to support academic training of young researchers and also to provide the empirical evidence needed for the policy making especially in the areas such as Misinformation, Data Journalism and Social Media regulations.
