UPEC accepting applications for two grants | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 21, 2020 MARQUETTE The Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition is now accepting applications for the 2021 round of its Community Conservation Grant and Environmental Education Grant Programs. UPEC’s Community Conservation Grant Program is designed to challenge U.P. communities to promote conservation values within their watershed or local area. In the past, short-sighted actions by corporate or individual landowners often degraded the U.P. landscape. UPEC’s Community Conservation Grants initiative focuses on communities that want to step up the protection of conservation values in their locality. The grants, up to $10,000 each, are for planning or implementing local conservation projects that engage a variety of stakeholders within a community. Grants could be awarded for finding ways to enhance native plant and animal life and the systems that support them. They can be for starting a community forest or preserve, or restoring a stream or wetland, or putting on a progr

Over £150,000 from the Culture Recovery Fund for King s Lynn and Fakenham cinemas

 | Updated: 15:44, 21 December 2020 Independent cinemas in Lynn and Fakenham will receive over £150,000 from the government s Culture Recovery Fund this Christmas. The Majestic Cinema and Fakenham s Central Cinema are among over 200 independent cinemas nationwide that will receive extra funding, with up to £16 million in grants available from the government s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund. Lynn s Majestic Cinema will receive £104,826, while £56,973 will go to Fakenham s Central Cinema. Tom Cundy, manager at Lynn s Majestic Cinema, said: It s going to be a big help. It s covering the cost of the PPE and the cost of everything we ve had to bring in during this time. It also means that during this quiet period, which we expect will go on for a few months, that we will be able to remain open.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden announced the grants from the Government s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund for arts organisations. A total of £16 million has been allocated by the British Film Institute, on behalf of the DCMS, to 202 independent cinemas in England, including The Light Cinema in Bradford and Ilkley Cinema. More applications are being assessed and cinemas will be able to apply for another £14 million in grants in the new year as part of the second round of the Culture Recovery Fund.
