South Korea s daily new coronavirus cases stayed around 700 on Thursday, as sporadic infections across the country complicate antivirus efforts, prompting authorities to mull tougher virus curbs to contain the pandemic.
The country reported 698 more COVID-19 cases, including 670 local infections, raising the total caseload to 112,117, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said.
Thursday s daily caseload was down from 731 the previous day, which marked the highest since Jan. 7.
South Korea s daily COVID-19 tally has been on the rise recently, showing little sign of easing anytime soon.
Vaccinations continue, but authorities remain on high alert as the warm spring weather is likely to bring more people outside.

Search operations were under way off the southern island of Geoje after three crew members of a capsized fishing boat went missing on Saturday, authorities said.
The 339-ton vessel capsized at around 4 p.m. in waters 1.11 kilometers southeast of the island, located some 400 km south of Seoul, with 10 crew members aboard ― nine South Koreans and one Indonesian ― according to the Coast Guard.
Seven of them have been rescued, but search operations were still under way to find the three others, it said, adding that strong winds and high waves are hampering their efforts.
