Bangladesh Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed held important meetings with UN Under-Secretary-General (USG) for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support Atul Khare.
During the meetings General Aziz Ahmed reiterated Bangladesh’s steadfast commitment and continued support to the UN peace operations, according to message received from Bangladesh Permanent Mission in New York on Wednesday.
He called for deployment of more Bangladeshi peacekeepers in peacekeeping missions globally.
Army Chief also requested for appointing more Bangladeshi officers in senior positions of UN peace operations and UN Headquarters.
At the meeting, held on Tuesday, UN Under-Secretary-General Lacroix appreciated the professionalism, discipline, dedication and bravery of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed in different UN peacekeeping missions.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said Bangladesh continues its discussions with Myanmar with a friendly attitude for the repatriation of Rohingyas without engaging in any conflict for the sake of regional security and development.
“Responding to the call of endangered humanity, we’ve given shelter to around 10 lakh Rohingyas despite [our] various limitations, including internal resource constraint. And we didn’t engage in conflict with anyone for the sake of regional security and development apart from creating scopes so that the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens can return to their homeland, “ she said, reports UNB.

Dhaka, Jan 29 : Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the country is in talks with Myanmar for the peaceful repatriation of Rohingyas.
The Premier reiterated Bangladesh s foreign policy of friendship and renewed calls for the repatriation of the forcibly-displaced Rohingyas through discussions with neighbouring Myanmar.
