The Gophers men s basketball team will play Dec. 5 at Mississippi State to restart their home-and-home series, the Bulldogs announced Wednesday.
The two programs had scheduled to begin playing last season with the Gophers hosting the Bulldogs before the game was postponed due to the pandemic. Mississippi State will now play at Williams Arena in the 2022-23 season.
The Bulldogs, who are coached by Ben Howland, finished NIT runner-up and 18-15 last season, including ninth place in the SEC with an 8-10 record.
Howland struck gold on the transfer market this spring by signing North Carolina s Garrison Brooks and Memphis D.J. Jeffries in the frontcourt.
The Tar Heels traded Walker Kessler for Brady Manek.
If Armando Bacot is advised by NBA teams for which he is auditioning that the needs another year in college instead of coming out as an undrafted free agent, the 2022 Tar Heels could be much-improved over the last two seasons.
And if Dean Smith’s old axiom is true that college players make the most improvement between their freshman and sophomore years, Caleb Love, RJ Davis and Kerwin Walton will be a lot better.

Tar Heels add 3-point shooting big man Manek from Sooners

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) North Carolina has added Oklahoma transfer Brady Manek.
The school announced Thursday that the 6-foot-9 graduate is joining the Tar Heels after spending the past four seasons as a Sooners starter under now-retired coach Lon Kruger.
Manek provides the Tar Heels with an experienced big man who can step outside to stretch defenses. Manek averaged in double figures each year for Oklahoma, peaking at 14.4 points in 2020 before averaging 10.8 points last year.
Manek also shot better than 37% from behind the arc in his Oklahoma career, making 235 3s to rank fifth in Oklahoma history. His arrival should bolster the outside shooting of a team that didn’t shoot well from 3-point range last season, while also helping offset some of the losses from a once-deep frontcourt.
