ROGERS, Ark. There is now a place in Northwest Arkansas for mothers in crisis to surrender their babies.
At Roger’s Fire Station #5 is the newly installed Safe Haven Baby Box where mothers in crisis can surrender their infant in the box anonymously.
This is the second one in Arkansas with the first being in Benton.
“If a woman is in that type of crisis, we would never understand what they are going through, but of all the choices they can make…A, keeps them out of trouble. B, provides a safe environment for their child, which you hope they would care about,” Deputy Chief Cliff Thompson said.

This doesn’t have to happen. Franciscan Health Foundation is currently raising funds to install a Safe Haven Baby Box at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.
Indiana’s Safe Haven Law allows a woman to legally and safely relinquish an unharmed newborn baby at a Safe Haven location. Historically, Safe Haven sites have been locations like fire and police stations. However, a baby box at a hospital gives women another, less intimidating, option if they fear being recognized, questioned or even arrested.

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Thursday was a big day for Franklin and Johnson County as a Safe Haven Baby Box (SHBB) was installed at Fire Station 22. There are still a few checklist items to be executed before it is fully operational, but the public should not have to wait too much longer.
The City of Franklin Fire Department says a big thank is in order to the Franklin Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council for securing the funding and connecting all the pieces to make the SHBB a reality. The city also appreciates Chief Matt Culp for his oversight and guidance with the Baby Box, the Franklin Township Trustees for funding the entire project, and Beats for Bristol for all of the research and effort put in on the front end of the project.
