Akron police hope the coming year will mean they can resolve as many as 20 rape and sexual assault cases that could otherwise be forgotten.
All it takes is some DNA and potential matches with family members that could lead to the identification of predators who ve so far remained anonymous.
The department last month announced it was awarded $150,000 to cover the cost of comparing DNA evidence from cold cases with DNA profiles in commercial databases maintained by services including Ancestry.com and 23andMe.
It was the third year the department s team received a grant, after it received a total of nearly $3 million over the last two years.
