Made on the Coast, which operates under the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee, awarded local artist Hannah Anderson the 2021 Emerging Artist Grant.
The program provides financial support to developing artists by funding a project that will help advance their careers as artists and be enjoyed by the community.
âOne of the biggest things for Made on the Coast is we really want to get the community involved,â said Alison Williams, Made on the Coast chairwoman. âWe want somebody that wants to give back to the community by sharing what they are doing. Thatâs why we decided with Hannah, she wanted to do something that could be shown all over town.â
There is bad news for fans of signature Coastside events that draw untold visitors and serve as vital fundraisers for area nonprofits and opportunities for local business. Organizers confirmed on Thursday that there will be no Pacific Coast Dream Machines this spring and no Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival in the fall. The news is no better in Pacifica, where the Fog Fest is off as well.
The reason is the ongoing pandemic that has eased in recent weeks but appears far from over. Late last month, the state eased restrictions on San Mateo County based on case rates and other metrics of the virus spread. As a result, the state allowed more retail activity, but the current âredâ tier of restrictions here continues to limit capacity for indoor activities and ban gatherings like fairs and festivals.
