LEE COUNTY â Last week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he would order flags to be lowered at half staff in honor of recently deceased conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh. But some Democratic leaders in the state say they plan to defy that order.
DeSantis is preparing to issue an executive order on the matter, even as members of his own cabinet are voicing opposition.
Flags will be flying at half-staff for the next five days at all Sarasota city facilities in remembrance of the more than 500,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried said Monday that she will be notifying state offices under her direction to disregard Gov. Ron DeSantis impending order to lower flags across the state to half-staff in honor of Rush Limbaugh.
Fried made the announcement in the form of a statement sent Monday afternoon.
âLowering to half-staff the flag of the United States of America is a sacred honor that pays respect to fallen heroes and patriots. It is not a partisan political tool. Therefore, I will notify all state offices under my direction to disregard the Governor s forthcoming order to lower flags for Mr. Limbaugh â because we will not celebrate hate speech, bigotry, and division.
