“此次西大距，水星与太阳的最大角距离约为22度。由于此时水星的赤纬较高，日出时的地平高度可达14度，亮度约+0.3等，位于金牛座内，日出前可见于东偏北方低空。届时如果天气晴好，在此前后的几天清晨，有兴趣的公众凭借肉眼或双筒望远镜有望目睹或观测到这颗平日里难得一见的神秘行星。”天津市天文学会理事、天津科学技术馆天文科普专家宋媛媛说。

2021年，水星一共有六次大距现象，东大距和西大距各三次。下一次水星大距发生在9月14日，为东大距。
