Director of Visit Britain Patricia Yates has said the UK needs to be realistic and get Covid cases under control by controlling the borders. Speaking to LBC, Ms Yates said: This isn t a good time for international travel, it s not peak season for Britain. To Be realistic we need to get the number of cases down and the virus under control because otherwise international visitors won t want to come here.

Families who usually head to Spain, Portugal or Greece are eyeing up home canal boat jaunts and rural breaks, creating a bonanza for a sector crippled by the pandemic. The Bike & Boot hotel was due to open in Scarborough just as Covid struck. Now its occupancy over Easter is 65 per cent, while July and August are even better. Simon Kershaw, its co-founder, said: What a shame it has taken this national tragedy to show people that taking holidays in the UK can be fantastic and rewarding.
In a rallying cry, its director Patricia Yates said: “Tourism is one of this country’s greatest industries. It is going to need all of us to make sure it bounces back once more.
“It is encouraging to see green shoots on the horizon and gains in consumer confidence in taking domestic trips from late spring and rising through summer.
“Thirty-nine percent of people we surveyed were confident of taking a domestic overnight trip in May, rising to 50 percent in June and 63 percent from Julyto September.
“We are also hearing reports that bookings for holidays at home have started to pick up with the vaccine rollout under way.”

Maiden Resident Among Suspects On Most Wanted List

A suspect listing a Catawba County address is among new suspects added to the Iredell County most wanted list.
49-year-old Anthony Arrington was recently placed on the list of suspects being sought in Iredell County. He’s charged with felony possession of cocaine and simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance. Arrington’s last known address was 3564 Fred Beard Road in Maiden.
20-year-old Morgan Flynn is another individual recently added to the Iredell County most wanted list. She’s wanted for three counts of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. Flynn’s last known address was 235 North Kimberly Road in Davidson.
